15 August Tuesday 9am-5pm: Acadian Day Celebrations at the New Brunswick Museum! Free admission on National Acadian Day. It’s a party! Join the NBM in celebrating one of New-Brunswick’s cultural holidays with all-day programming highlighting some fantastic Acadian traditions and celebrations. Activities include Acadian treats in the morning, flag-raising in front of City Hall at 12pm, a tintamarre walking parade leaving from City Hall at 12:20 p.m., musical entertainment with La Famille Babineau at 2pm and face painting in the afternoon. Cake and refreshments will be offered at the NBM foyer at 4pm. Everyone can experience the colour, sound and flavour of the Acadian culture at the New Brunswick Museum! (Bilingual)

18 August Friday 4pm-6pm: Gallery Hop. Free admission. Start the Gallery Hop at the New Brunswick Museum, with the temporary exhibition True Nordic: How Scandinavia Influenced Design in Canada. (Bilingual)

24 August Thursday 5-7pm: The New Brunswick Mat Registry and the New Brunswick Museum invite you to celebrate the launch of films and learning modules created to share New Brunswick’s rick mat hooking heritage. Reception and film screening at the New Brunswick Museum Exhibition Centre. RSVP 1-888-268-9595 by 21 August.

Saint John Festival of Sail activities at the New Brunswick Museum
13 August Sunday at 2 pm and again at 3 pm: Before The Mast at the NBM. Free with admission. As a prelude to the upcoming Festival of Tall Ships, Before the Mast will be performing at the New Brunswick Museum. This local, ECMA-nominated a cappella group will be taking stage in the Hall of Great Whales. With interjections of commentaries about shanties, ships, and sailors, these two 40-minute concerts will share the energy and harmony of the seas.  Afterwards, support the group by taking home their newest CD, “Hand Over Hand”, available in the NBM Shop!
18, 19, and 20 August Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 1:30-2:30pm: Ship Portraiture Tour. Free with admission. Take a closer look at the NBM’s collection of marine art from the golden age of sail. (Bilingual)
18, 19, and 20 August Friday, Saturday, Sunday 3:30-4:30pm: Wind, Wood and Sail Gallery Tour. Free with admission. Marvel at stories of famous ships built in New Brunswick and tales of their travels around the world while taking in the scope of the time, effort and ingenuity required to construct them. 18, and 19 August Friday and Saturday 1:00-3:00pm: Pirate Party. Free with admission. Learn how to walk, talk, work and play like a pirate! Includes costumes, crafting and even sea shanties! (Bilingual)



9 – 22 August, 2017: NBM BiotaNB. The New Brunswick Museum Centre for Biodiversity Research is leading the ninth annual two week « NBM BiotaNB » project to discover and document the biodiversity of the Spednic Lake and Canoose Flowage Protected Natural Areas.

20 August Sunday 2-8pm: McAdam Lions Community Centre, 165 Saunders Rd, McAdam, NB: NBM BiotaNB Open House. Come meet some of the experts participating in the NBM BiotaNB, and learn about their discoveries. Meet NBM BiotaNB Artists-in-Residence and discover artistic interpretations. Informal comments at 3pm.

Drop-in for adults and families to learn about NBM’s BiotaNB and what you can do to help preserve NB’s biodiversity: 11 August Friday 2-4pm; 14 August Monday 6-8pm; 18 August Friday 1-3pm. (McAdam Lions Community Centre)
