New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame Announces Sport Day in Canada Event

FREDERICTON, NB- The New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame is pleased to announce its activities for its Sport Day in Canada celebrations. On Nov. 29 the Hall will open its door to the public to take part in a fun-filled afternoon. From 1pm-5pm the public will be able to enjoy everything from the Build Your Own Stanley Cup and Build Your Own Sportscard activities to the Hall’s Junior Curator experience. A full list and description of the Hall’s Sport Day in Canada activities can be found below. The occasion will also mark the opening of the Hall’s Hands on Heritage room, which will be used as an interactive space.

Admission will be waived for the first 50 wearing a sports jersey.

Build Your Own Stanley Cup 1:30pm

NHL players may dream of winning the Stanley Cup but some lucky children will make their very own trophy on Saturday, November 29 during free events to mark Sports Day in Canada at the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame.

Pre-registration is required for this fun activity that will see up to 15 youngsters construct a life size Stanley Cup out of recyclable materials at the Sports Hall of Fame. Kids can take home the nearly one metre high silver trophy to place next to their bed or on the mantle in the family room as they cheer on their favour hockey team this season.


-Build Your Own Sportscard 2:30pm

Always wondered what your face would look like on a sports trading card? Well here’s your chance. Make your way down to the NB Sports Hall Of Fame on Nov. 29 a create you very own trading card. Pose for whichever sport you want. Make it wacky or make it serious, the choice is yours!

Pre-registration is required for this fun-filled crafty activity. Around 15 children will get the chance to design their personalized trading card. They’ll be able to take it home with them and show it off to their friends at school!


Be a Junior Curator 3:30pm

Curious kids with a love of sports will become Junior Curators with a behind-the-scenes look at the thousands of sports related artefacts in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame during Sports Day in Canada events on November 29, 2014.

Pre-registration is required for this rare up close view of trophies, medals, sports equipment and uniforms in the Sports Hall of Fame’s museum collection. Up to 15 lucky kids in the Junior Curator program will actually handle artefacts from the museum’s educational collection using the curator’s white gloves and magnifying glass while learning about the important role curators play in preserving and documenting New Brunswick’s sports heritage.
