417 Amirault Street, Dieppe, New Brunswick
The Old School at 417 Amirault Street, Dieppe, is a former one-and-a-half-storey wooden schoolhouse that was in use during the second half of the 19th century. Originally located in Saint-Anselme, it was moved to Dieppe and repurposed as a residence in 1948.
Being possibly over 150 years old, the Old School was one of the first schools in the Dieppe region. Originally, this structure was a one-room schoolhouse in Saint-Anselme. Throughout the second half of the 19th century, up to 50 students at once attended this school, including both English and French speakers from Grades 1 to 8. In 1948, the Old School was replaced by a new building next door, and this retired building was relocated in Dieppe, when it was turned into a private residence.
