Located on the waterfront in Miramichi, New Brunswick, the Beaubears Island Interpretive Centre and Visitor Centre is the gateway to one of the province’s most remarkable heritage destinations. From here, visitors can discover the stories of Beaubears Island, where history, nature, and adventure come together along the beautiful Miramichi River.
Once a refuge for Acadian families during the Deportation and later a centre of New Brunswick’s thriving wooden shipbuilding industry, Beaubears Island is a place where centuries of history have unfolded. Today, visitors can explore this National Historic Site through guided walking tours, boat tours, heritage programming, and scenic trails that showcase the island’s forests, shoreline, and breathtaking river views.
Before heading to the island, stop by the Interpretive Centre to explore immersive exhibits, local artifacts, and interactive displays highlighting the people, ships, and communities that shaped the Miramichi region. The Centre also features a gift shop and serves as a hub for visitor information and seasonal programming.
Throughout the summer, Beaubears Island hosts a variety of special events, including the popular Chi Shanty Music Festival, celebrating maritime music and culture.
Whether you’re interested in Acadian history, New Brunswick’s shipbuilding heritage, or simply looking for a memorable outdoor experience, Beaubears Island offers something for everyone.
